Time of year and weather are dependant on which route to tackle and when but from the high mountain passes of the Garfagnana the rolling olive groves in and around Lucca and Pisa to the Coastal roads of versilia the choices are endless.
This year's special offers include stage 9 of the Giro d'italia on the 21st of May (see availability). We will pick up the race as it passes through the Garfagnana and follow it's route down to the coast in Versillia enjoying the spectacle of this great race.
The G.P Camaiore on 8th Aug. (see availability) still an important date on the U.C.I calendar, attracts big names in preparation for the classics in Aug. The 20 km circuit including the climb of 'stavia' creates a great atmosphere and is an important local event.
Recent winners included Tuscans such as Bettini and Tafi. |

IL GIRO DELL ABETONE 124km
The classic ride of the area, the tour of Abetone will leave you with a great sense of achivement.
After leaving Castlenouvo, passing through Bagni di Lucca and the short climb to Popiglio we start the 17km of L'Abetone. At 1388 m this ski resort is a regular in the Giro d'Italia and is included in 2 granfondo, with an average of 7% the road twists and turns its way up with views of the Appenini stretching out around us.
After refreshments and a 12 km decent to Pievepelago we bear left and start the second climb of the day, with Abetone already in our legs we find our rythm again and ascent to a heady 1528 m Il Passo Radici, and the gateway to the Garfagnana.
From here there is a long and picturesque descent back to Castlenouvo. |
 |
LA SALITA DA MONTE SERRA 87 km
Situated between Lucca & Pisa, Monte Serra is climb often used by the pro's in training, with 3 ascents available from between 5% and 10% of which I believe Jan Ullrich holds the record.
Our route will bring us down the serchio valley to Lucca from where our choice of ascent decides our loop. At 923 m the views from Monte serra are fantastic, showing off the Mediterranean, Pisa and the mountains looking back towards the Garfagnana. |
 |
IL GIRO DELLA GARFAGNANA 54 km
The tour of the Garfagnana is a chance to show off the heart of Cyclingitalia, this is our backyard and is an undulating ride through the local villages and towns.
Leaving Castlenouvo we pass through Castiglione and up to Villa Collemandina 514 m after a short descent our route circles the Serchio valley through San Romano to Piazza al Serchio. Here we pick up part of the route of the Granfondo Alpi Apuane and head back to Castlenouvo over the Poggio |
 |
IL GIRO DI LUCCA 77 km
A favorite ride, the tour of Lucca consists of 3 short climbs and the historic wall of Lucca. A common retreat for the international pro, and locals with names such as Cipollini & Bartoli, Lucca has a great heritidge in cyclling as is a must on our schedule. This undulating route takes us over the S.Donato, Aquilea and Mastiano deep in the olive groves around the outskirts before heading to La Mura (the wall), separating the old Lucca from its new. Our return is through Marlia, Ponte a Moriano, and the Serchio Valley towards the Garfagnana. |
 |
IL GIRO DA BARGA 60 km
An undulating route covering the climbs of Barga 463m and Molanzzana 587m. Leaving Castlenouvo our route takes us through Castlevecchio di Pascoli to Barga, an historic town with a Scottish connection dating back to the second world war. Decending to Fornaci di Barga we cross the valley to Gallicano where we start the climb to Molazzana, and onto Montletissimo. Returning to Castlenouvo |

IL GIRO AL MARE 130 km
Living and riding here for the last 7 years, I have come to appreciate how fortunate I am to have found an area so adapt and versatile to cycling. This ride, the tour of Versillia really does have it all. Leaving Castlenouvo we climb gradually through the Apuane to il passo Cipollaro 842m,where the 17km descent towards the sea is both rewarding and picturesque. Passing through Seravezza we head down to the coast road and along the sea front to Lido di camoire( snack & refreashments). With the sea behind us we head back inland to Camiore and over the short climb of montemagno, picking up the Freddana towards Lucca. Our return is over Fiano and down to Diecimo and Borgo a Mozzano. |
